Elmer worked in the financial services industry, for The Bank of Nova Scotia beginning in 1969 in a career spanning 40 years. He held various management and senior management positions within the bank including working as a Branch Manager for 8 years. He worked the last 3 years of his long career employed as the Vice-President, Automotive Finance, at Scotiabank de Puerto Rico, a subsidiary of the Bank of Nova Scotia. He retired from that job in 2010.

During his career he has worked extensively, with seniors, the general public and with commercial accounts, handling their day to day banking, investments, borrowing needs and general banking requirements.

After retirement, Elmer and his wife Laura Moved to Kingsville, Ontario. He joined Royal LePage® Binder Real Estate in 2010 and works mainly in the residential new and resale market all over Essex County in South Western Ontario.
